Cute or Scary? Nursery Art by Mr-Sisson Cute or Scary? Nursery Art by Mr-Sisson
Story of the photo:

A couple of my old friends are having their first child and asked me to paint something in their nursery. I didn't want to give their child nightmares, so I tried to paint something cute, and this is the result (which I finished yesterday).

You can see that in the original sketch he's not terribly happy. For the nursery I made his smile more peppy and gave him a lower set of teeth, so he didn't look too stupid. I think it works. I think he's cute enough, but I thought I'd open up the question:

Is he cute enough for a kid's room . . . or is this kid now scarred for life?

cheers,

- Mr. Sisson

Awesome work! - Love it :)

Very mixed feelings concerning the question though. Surely not scared for life (without a creepy background story it's just an uncommon "neutral" thing - and hey, maybe it even becomes something positive like "Sprinkles, the intergalactic tooth fairy" - on the other hand - I wouldn't put it in my child's room.

Besides, maxillary prognathism always makes me giggle and therefore i have to admit, the final painting's creature looks even slightly dumber > funnier to me.

Anyway - again, nice job :)

cheers

Hehehe, that's a pretty scary face for a kid to look into. Still, cute! :)

It's amazing how you paint your images. They look almost 3D.

Awesome work.

When I was little I was afraid of close to everything... now, I could be stairing a dude with a gun in the face and laugh so I'm not really sure how good my opinion would be on this but.... It's a bit creepy, but I love it so I think the child will as well!

true innocence knows no fear. this creature will make for a great accomplice in a child's creative development.

i think that i would be scared to whatever by this x]
i mean it's a good painting, but for a child...maybe not. maybe change the backround to be lighter, do something else with his color and then it might be better.

The kid is scarred for life. I know a two year old that gets frightened by masks. Hopefully he'll be unaffected, though.
